Today, we want to share an important update on the future of Huskies hockey. We’ve formed an exciting new partnership with Canlan Sports to secure a long-term future for the club at Canlan Sports Romeoville.

We’re here to announce that a positive new era of Huskies hockey starts now!

What’s Been Done

Over the past several weeks, we’ve worked closely with Canlan Sports to create a new operational structure that provides a runway for the club to succeed not just for the ‘25/26 season, but for years to come.

  • New Structure: The club’s leadership will include representation from volunteers and the Canlan Sports Romeoville team.
  • Full Financial Reset: Working with Canlan Sports, the club will have a sustainable operating model moving forward that provides a strong foundation.
  • Working with AHAI: With these changes, we’ve worked closely with AHAI to ensure there’s alignment and support for our club’s plan moving forward.
  • Player Development Pathways: We’re also excited to break down barriers and fully integrate the club with Canlan’s Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programming, along with Lil Huskies, to ensure that we’re developing the future of the club.

A New Era of Huskies Hockey

Since 1969, the Huskies have been a staple of the Illinois youth hockey community as one of the oldest clubs in the State. The tradition lives on with a revamped value proposition for our Huskies families in ‘25/26:

  • Transparent Fee Structure: We’re simplifying the game and saving families money vs. 2024/25 with a robust operating model that eliminates the need for team slush funds and surprise fees after the season starts.
  • Full Ice Practices: Every one of our teams will have access to full-ice practices (including 8U!), with 10U teams getting a minimum of one (1) full ice practice per week, and 12U, 14U, & 16U teams practicing exclusively on full ice.
  • Weekly Skills Development and Goalie Training: Huskies teams will also have access to weekly skills training and specialized goaltending instruction for additional development.
  • Locker Room Access: All our teams will have access to the Huskies Locker Room on a rotational basis so that everyone gets chances to feel like a pro!
  • More Time on Rink 2: The Huskies will have more games and practices scheduled at Canlan Sports Romeoville’s center rink for a better viewing experience.
  • Dedicated Huskies Stick and Puck weekly session and much more!

Every decision we have made and will continue to make going forward, is to put the players and families first and it is our commitment to rebuild the Huskies Hockey Club into one that you can continue being proud to be part of.
